Armored Fiber Cable
Armored optic fiber cable is important application in telecommunications long-distance and secondary backbone line transmission. However, the armored fiber that the general network master usually access to, is mostly used in the connection with two optical network equipment in the building computer room. Such armored fiber cable length is relatively short. Often called an armored jumper/patch cord.
Definition
The so-called armored fiber (optical cable), is to wrap a layer of protective "armor" on the outer layer of fiber, mainly used to meet customers’ requirements of rodent-resistance, moisture-proof, etc.
Main Effect
General armored jumper has a layer of metal armor inside the skin, so that inside the core is protected, anti-strong anti-stretching function, anti-bite moth-eaten and so on.
Classifications by Indoor and Outdoor.
According to the Use of Places to Points
Indoor Armored Cable:
Classifications by single armor and double armor points (indoor cable). Single-core indoor armored cable structure is:
Tight fiber + aramid fiber (the role of tensile resistant) + stainless steel flexible hose (pressure-resistant, bending-resistant, rodent bite resistant) + stainless steel braided wire (torsion-resistant) + Outer sheath (usually PVC, according to the effect role, there are other types like flame retardant PVC, LSZH, Teflon, silicone tube, etc.)
Single armor is the fiber cable without stainless steel braiding.
Double armor is the fiber cable with stainless steel flexible hose and stainless steel braiding.
Advantages: high tensile resistant, high compression resistant, anti-rodent; can resist improper torsion bending damage; simple construction, saving maintenance cost. It can adapt to a variety of harsh environments and man-made damage.
Disadvantages: weight heavier than ordinary fiber cable. The price is higher than ordinary fiber cable.
Outdoor Armored Cable:
Classifications by light armor and heavy armor (outdoor cable). Light armor is with steel strip and aluminum strip, the effect is to strengthen and prevent rodent bites. Heavy armor is surrounded by a lap of steel wire, usually used for riverbed and seabed. Ordinary armored fiber optic cable is more expensive than non-armored fiber optic cable on the market, usually steel strip, aluminum strip is much cheaper than aramid fiber (Kevlar is mainly used for special occasions).
Classification by Metal Armor According to Materials
There are steel armor and aluminum armor. Usually a bolt type, with a layer of metal armor to protect the core, can be bent naturally, with advantages of high pressure-resistant, anti-tensile, providing excellent protection and safety for fiber optic cable.
Overhead Cable
If it is an outdoor aerial cable, in order to avoid harsh environments and damage by human or animal (such as the frequent occurrence of someone shooting birds with bird-eyebug and breaks the fiber), play a role in protecting the core, general using armored fiber optic cable. Light steel armor is recommended. It is cheaper and more durable. Generally, there are two types of outdoor aerial cables: one is the center beam tube type(GYXTS); the other is stranded(GYTS). In order to be durable, aerial cable is mostly using one jacket, while direct burial is with two layers of jacket.
