What’s the difference between a wiring rack and a switchboard?

From the outside, the wiring racks and switches look very similar because they both have many ports. In fact, the wiring rack is a one-line port passive equipment, is used for cable management, it is also the realization of vertical trunk and horizontal wiring two subsystem cross-connected hub. In the Wiring Rack, you can mark the direction of a single cable to create a clear, well-organized way to identify the direction of the signal transmission, in order to line problems for troubleshooting. In addition, the use of the distribution frame also avoids the problem of the switch port damage caused by the multiple insertion and pull-out of the cable.

Exchanger has many Ethernet ports, but it is an active device. Switch is a kind of network equipment used for electrical (optical) Signal Forwarding, which can provide exclusive electric signal path for any two network nodes accessing switch. It connects devices on a computer network by receiving, processing, and forwarding data to the target device using packet switching. In the case of structured cabling, the switch port can be connected to the port on the wiring rack, thereby connecting the Ethernet devices together.

Installation steps of wiring rack and switchboard

The following tools are required for mounting the wire racks and switches: wire crimping pliers, Cable Tester, Phillips Screwdriver, Straight Screwdriver and module punch. The main installation steps are as follows:

Preparations Before installing the switch and wiring rack, the height and overall layout of the rack must be considered in order to determine how many rack units are available for the wiring rack and switch. Then be sure to install the type of cable, because different cables can not be mixed. Then check the wiring rack, accessories (including jumper frame, cable fixed ring, etc.) is complete, and determine the placement of these tools. In general, there are three mounting positions in the frame, depending on the actual wiring configuration.

When the grounding socket, the bridge socket, when the cable from the side into the frame, the distribution frame should be installed in different positions.

Installation Steps

Fix the wiring rack to the rack with proper screws. Arrange the proper length of cable and connect each cable to the proper port, then secure the cable with straps. Determine which ports of the switchboard port should be connected to the distribution frame (consider the wiring of the power cord) . Install the Assembly frame, and then switch it to the floor stand in the Assembly cabinet. Connect the rack ports to the switch ports using the prepared cables. Install horizontal and vertical cable management, and use lanyards to tie the cables together for future use. Mark each cable with the same tag at both ends for easy identification.

Cable management tool for distribution racks and switches

Horizontal cable management tool The horizontal cable management tool is mainly used to accommodate the cable connections between adjacent units within the Cabinet. It comes in a variety of styles -- they can be assembled at will to effectively simplify wiring.

Vertical Cable Management Tool

Vertical cable management tools inside and outside the extension cabinet, the internal vertical cable management tools are mainly used to manage the cable connection between the upper and lower unit equipment inside the cabinet, usually equipped with left and right open hinged doors, the vertical cable management tool outside the rack can be used for copper cable and optical fiber connection. The distribution rack is installed at the front of the rack. These cable management tools can be used with cable ties to keep the network wiring system in good order.

Other matters

Cable ties and cable labels can also help improve installation efficiency. In the construction of the network, a large number of cables are built into the rack, and cable straps and cable labels help manage these cables and mark them for later identification. Removable cable ties can be used for fixed cable, can be reused, no waste of resources; multi-color optional cable ties, for color coding; cable ties with fixed elements, for panels, welding studs, etc. Stainless steel strap for harsh environment. The Velcro tape is the most common tool used to hold the cables together. At the same time, Cable label paper also helps to improve efficiency, its main role is to ensure that the cable organization, correctness and convenient staff maintenance inspection.
