IDATE DigiWorld has announced the FTTH subscriber situation in 39 European countries for the fiscal year ending September 2021. As of September 2021, the number of FTTH/B users in 39 European countries has reached 96.1 million, and a total of 198 million households have been connected. FTTH coverage reached 57%. An increase of 4.5% over the same period last year. By September 2021, the 39 EU countries have identified around 400 FTTH/B schemes.

Among the EU27+UK countries, three out of five countries have more than 50% all-fiber network household connections. This figure shows the support of these countries for the development of #FTTH deployment.3

EU27+UK accounts for 60% of the 96.1 million #FTTH/B subscribers in EU39.

The all-optical network infrastructure connected 198 million households, of which the number of EU27+UK connections reached 109 million.
The all-optical network improves user experience, and nearly half of EU27+UK households (about 49%) are covered by the all-fiber network.
During the 2020-2021 period, delays in fiber rollouts have resulted in slower progress in subscriber additions than previously forecast.
Gigabit technologies such as 5G FWA, G.fast and Docsis 3.1/4.0 are still being deployed to meet current home bandwidth demands, which also delays the progress of #FTTH deployment in parts of Europe

Now, people realize the value of the skilled labor required to build and manage new fiber optic networks. The industry is responding, but employee training and retention are top priorities for service providers and network builders.
Germany, the UK and Italy have the most work to do connecting the remaining dwellings, with more than 60 million dwellings still to be connected between them.
