introduction

In an era of rapid digital transformation and growing environmental awareness, the demand for sustainable computing solutions has never been higher. In recent years, China has been committed to finding practical solutions that balance our growing technological needs with environmental responsibility. In this article, we look at five representative green data centers across communication, Internet, public institutions, finance and other major fields in China, demonstrating the country's efforts to minimize its environmental impact.

China Unicom Shenzhen-shantou cloud data center

China Unicom Shenzhen-Shantou Cloud Data Center (Building 2 of Tencent Ebu Data Center) fully considered the climate characteristics of high temperature and high humidity in the project area in the design stage. In the process, they used an efficient centralized water-cooled air conditioning system. By performing accurate load calculations and predicting server load patterns, the data center achieves an integrated, modular design of power supply systems, cooling systems and server (IT) equipment.

Since the start of operations, the average annual data center power ratio (PUE) has been in the range of 1.23 to 1.25. This shows the excellent performance of the data center in maintaining efficient operation.

Runze International Information Port A-7 Data Center

Some modules in the Runze International Information Port A-7 Data Center are equipped with industry-leading liquid cooling refrigeration technology, an innovative initiative that is leading the way in the entire data center industry. Compared to traditional air-cooled technology, the overall energy efficiency of the liquid-cooled data center is improved by 22%. Its notable features include efficient collaborative computing power, high-quality data transmission, ultra-large scale, a new green model, advanced intelligent demonstration, and stable, safe and reliable exemplary technological innovation.

China sports lottery yizhuang data center

China Sports Lottery Yizhuang Data Center uses a carbon dioxide load cooling refrigeration system for innovation. This system makes full use of the advantages of large cooling capacity and low energy consumption of carbon dioxide. At the same time, combined with the "cold channel closure + intercolumn air conditioning" design inside the data center, the unit cooling performance factor (COP) of the data center reached 17.93. This means that with up to 3,960 hours of natural cooling throughout the year, the data center's power to power ratio (PUE) can drop to less than 1.20. Compared to conventional air-cooled direct expansion air-conditioning systems, this innovative design can achieve power savings of more than 60%.

ping'an shenzhen guanlan no.3 data center

The construction of Ping'an Shenzhen Guanlan No.3 Data Center follows the Class A Equipment Room Standards stipulated in the Data Center Design Code. After successfully passing the PUE verification test, the measured and verified PUE was 1.247. This marks the first financial data center in China with a PUE below 1.25 to pass the test and acceptance. The project is also the first in China to adopt a seven-layer stacked indirect evaporative cooling air conditioning system, setting a new standard for energy-saving technology in domestic financial data centers.

alibaba zhejiang cloud computing renhe data center

Alibaba Zhejiang Cloud Computing Renhe Data Center is the world's largest fully submerged liquid cooled data center, with a green rating of 5A. The data center uses single-phase submerged liquid cooling technology, which is based on insulating coolant to achieve efficient heat dissipation. Thanks to this innovative design, data centers do not need to rely on traditional cooling equipment such as fans, air conditioners and chillers.

In addition, Alibaba Zhejiang Cloud Computing Kernel and data centers also use a series of advanced technologies, including HVDC, distributed redundancy for power supply and distribution, and artificial intelligence optimization algorithms. The clever combination of these technologies has enabled the data center to achieve a level of excellence in planning, design and construction. As a result, the data center's power usage Efficiency value (PUE) is a staggering 1.09.
