FAQ
Why Is a Port Mapping Diagram Required Instead of Standard Type A, B or C Polarity?
Type A, B and C describe conventional point-to-point MPO polarity, while a shuffle assembly redistributes individual fiber lanes across multiple ports. A port mapping diagram defines the exact input-to-output relationship and prevents incorrect lane assignment during production and installation.
How Is Insertion Loss Evaluated for a Fiber Shuffle Assembly?
The insertion loss of each connector is measured individually against a reference connector for every defined fiber channel, following the approved port mapping. The stated insertion loss grades apply to a single connector rather than the total end-to-end loss of the complete assembly.
Can Different Connector Interfaces and Fiber Counts Be Combined?
Yes. Hybrid configurations combining MTP, MPO, SN-MT or MMC interfaces with different fiber counts can be designed according to the required topology. The total lane count and mapping must match the system requirements, while fiber mode, connector keying, gender and polish must remain compatible at each mating interface.
Can the Fiber Routing Be Changed After the Assembly Is Manufactured?
No. The optical lanes are factory-routed and fixed inside the assembly, so the mapping cannot be changed on site. If future expansion is expected, spare ports and planned lane assignments should be included during the design stage to reduce replacement or re-cabling requirements.
