The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and other government departments jointly issued a notice last Wednesday, saying that a specific operation will be carried to improve the nation's signal coverage in order to meet growing public demand and support the digital transformation of China's key industries.
By the end of 2024, more than 80,000 key locations will have deep mobile network coverage, and 25,000 kilometers of railroads and 350,000 kilometers of roads and 150 metro lines will have continuous mobile network coverage, the notice said.
And the target for 2025 will be further improved. More than 120,000 key places will realize deep mobile network coverage, 30,000 kilometers of railroads and 500,000 kilometers of highways, and 200 metro lines will realize continuous mobile network coverage. 5G network coverage depth and breadth continue to improve. The average downlink access rate of the mobile network will be no less than 220 Mbps, and the average uplink access rate will be no less than 45 Mbps. major business indicators such as lagging and delay will be fully optimized, and the proportion of the mobile network reaching the standard rate will be no less than 95%, and the proportion of 5G traffic will be significantly increased.
It is worth mentioning that, the notice is oriented towards 11 key locations such as governmental affairs centers, culture and tourism, medical institutions, higher education institutions, transportation hubs and others, and puts forward the corresponding coverage targets of 2024 and 2025.
Among them, the residential area, urban villages, urban and rural area will continue to see the promotion of the mobile network signal coverage and indoor Wi-Fi coverage based on fiber to the room (FTTR), focusing on coverage of activity centers, living supermarkets, underground parking lots, elevators, and other key locations. The key points of the new residential area basically achieve full coverage of the mobile network to support the smart home, smart community and other applications.
