Russia Rostelecom Will Upgrade Asia-Europe Fiber Cable System
According to the recent media reports, Rostelecom, a Russian state-owned telecom operator, announced recently that it will significantly upgrade the Asia-Europe Optical Cable (TEA) system this year. The upgrade will increase the TEA capacity connecting to Europe, China and Japan to 2Tbps, and the single channel can provide 100 Gbps service.
This upgrade is part of the TEA modernization plan put forward by Rostelecom in 2016. The TEA project began in February 2003 when Russia and China signed a strategic telecommunications service agreement. Rostelecom said it plans to further increase the capacity of the fiber network to 10 Tbps in the next few years.
