On the 21st, the National Development and Reform Commission held a press conference on promoting the consumption of automobiles and electronic products. Chang Tiewei, Deputy Director of the Employment Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated that they will increase investment in new infrastructure construction, such as fiber optic networks, 5G, and artificial intelligence.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the demand for intelligent consumer goods in China has continued to grow in the first half of this year, leading to a 12% increase in the value-added of industries related to the manufacturing of smart consumer devices. Among them, the output of various virtual reality devices has grown by 58% year on year.
From the market feedback, electronic products that truly meet the high-quality living demands of the people, adapt to new scenarios such as digitization, intelligence, and aging, have new market space. Especially, the scale of China's middle-income group continues to expand, and the demand for emerging electronic products is also increasing.
Regarding the next development direction, Chang pointed out that the National Development and Reform Commission has observed three aspects:
- Smart products becoming new growth points. In general, the smart home scene centered around comfort and livability is becoming a new trend. In recent years, the market size of smart home appliances has been continuously growing, and the future market potential is also enormous. From a smaller perspective, there is significant potential in smart wearable devices. Currently, wearable smart devices combine information processing functions with daily wear, possessing new functions such as information collection, computation, storage, transmission, and more, presenting various forms such as smart glasses, smart watches, and smart monitoring devices based on different consumer scenarios.
- Green and healthy new demands promote continuous upgrades of electronic products. With the improvement of residents' living standards and the impact of previous epidemics on consumption habits, green and healthy have become important indicators for consumers to choose electronic consumer goods. For example, smart air conditioners with purifying abilities such as oil, bacteria, and viruses, as well as new features like low noise, are more attractive to consumers. TV consumption now pays more attention to audiovisual experiences and eye protection; there is also strong demand for smart health-related products like smartwatches and smart fitness mirrors. The market for various smart equipment and portable medical care devices related to the needs of the elderly is also growing rapidly.
- Networking and interoperability become the new standard for electronic products. With the popularization of digital technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cloud computing, and mobile applications, the cost of interconnecting electronic products is becoming lower. More and more consumers experience the comfort and convenience brought by networking electronic products. Currently, whether the product can be linked and interoperable with other electronic products has become an important consideration factor for consumers when choosing electronic products. Especially, the emerging 5G network technology performs better in terms of high-speed rate, low latency, and large connectivity. The popularization of 5G networks will make the networking function of electronic products more convenient and reliable.
Chang stated that in the next step, the National Development and Reform Commission will increase investment in new infrastructure construction such as fiber optic networks, 5G, and artificial intelligence, continuously improve the construction level of digital, intelligent, and networked infrastructure, and especially guide increased investment in new infrastructure construction in the central and western regions. This will provide a better application environment for continuously upgraded and replaced electronic products, and improve the experience of information consumption and new consumption.
