The new CEO of Vodafone, Philippe Rogge, has revealed more about the expansion of fiber optics in Germany.

He stated during a panel discussion at the Anga Com industry fair in Cologne on May 23, 2023, that they "mostly do not" plan to overbuild the existing networks of competitors in the fiber optic expansion. Rogge explained, "We are actually expanding our own cable network."

Vodafone Group and the Altice Group announced plans to invest €7 billion in network expansion in Germany starting from spring 2023. The joint venture company, Fibreco, is owned equally by the partners. The expansion is set to take place over the next six years, reaching around seven million households.

Approximately 20 percent of the expansion will focus on FTTH (Fiber To The Home) in areas where Vodafone's network is currently unavailable. This means that 80 percent of the investment will be directed towards upgrading their own cable network. Vodafone operates a coaxial cable network in Germany and currently offers connections with speeds of up to 1 Gbps.

Vodafone Germany is testing and validating the new Docsis 4.0 standard, which offers speeds of up to 10 Gbps. This information is based on a presentation slide released by the British Vodafone Group on November 15, 2022. According to the roadmap depicted, Vodafone aims to offer speeds of up to 3 Gbps in over five percent of households through Docsis High Split technology.
