AR-Coated MPO: Why It Matters in Repeated Optical Testing
An AR-coated MNC™ MPO master cable is not simply a standard MPO/MTP® jumper with a coating. It combines recessed fiber tips and an anti-reflection optical film to create a controlled, non-contact interface for high-frequency test connections.

TRADITIONAL MPO/MTP
Physical-contact mating
Standard MPO/MTP connectors are engineered for fiber end faces to make physical contact. This is well suited to normal interconnection, but repeated test mating requires careful control of end-face condition and cleanliness.
MNC AR-COATED MPO
Controlled non-contact mating
The MNC fiber tips are recessed below the ferrule surface. AR coating is applied at the fiber end face to manage reflection across the intentionally controlled air gap.

Do not confuse the two functions: the recessed fiber-tip geometry creates the non-contact condition; the AR film suppresses reflection at the fiber-air interface. AR coating alone does not turn a regular MPO connector into a non-contact test interface.

The fiber cores sit slightly below the ferrule surface instead of relying on direct fiber-core contact.

The thin-film coating reduces Fresnel reflection from the fiber-air boundary at the intended operating wavelength.

Why Use It in an Optical Test Link?
A test result is only as reliable as the connection between the instrument and the device under test. The MNC master cable is placed at the repeatedly mated reference interface to help isolate test-link variation from actual DUT performance.

Choose MNC-MPO
Use a single AR-coated test end when the cable must connect to a conventional MPO/MTP equipment interface at the other end.
Choose MNC-MNC
Use double-sided AR-coated MNC ends when two designated reference interfaces need the same non-contact mating approach.
Before ordering: confirm the fiber count, SM or MM wavelength, APC or UPC end face, connector gender, polarity, DUT connector brand, cable length, and which end requires AR coating. The recess geometry should be matched to the actual test interface whenever possible.
One final note: AR coating does not replace end-face inspection and cleaning. Keep the test interface clean, verify polarity, and validate the reference link before assessing DUT performance.
